About FlyStrong

FlyStrong is a three-phase program for anyone who wants to develop the most successful handstand and arm balance practice imaginable. I wanted to create something to transform someone with no handstand experience – and even a fear of being upside down – into a practitioner who can move through some of the most advanced transitions in the practice.

Arm balances and inversions are what initially drew me into yoga. I was captivated by the fun tricks and advanced poses. But soon I discovered that I was gaining mastery and control over my body, had become focused on the present moment, and understood myself on a deeper, more profound level.

I wanted to create a series to take others on that same journey. This program is progressive in nature, and includes intelligent, instructional programming for 90 days. In addition to nearly 10 hours of instructional videos, you’ll solidify your skills with my “FlyStrong Workbook” PDF. It includes daily homework to develop your technique and strength needed to perform that particular pose or transition. Every level also has its own proficiency tests so you know when you’re ready to move on.

You’ll start at the wall to build your confidence, strength, and body awareness before we begin threading inversions and transitions into your flows. This is a very technical series and it may take you longer than 90 days, but this series provides you with everything you need to take your practice as far as you want to go.

Dylan grew up in the mountains of Southern California, where at an early age he was into fitness, movement, extreme sports, and nature. At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as an aircraft firefighter, and also wrestled for the All-Marine wrestling team. After one tour of duty in the Iraqi war, Dylan was honorably discharged and returned to California to attend university, where he studied anatomy and emergency medicine. Dylan spent eight years working as a paramedic; four years on an ambulance and another four years as a full-time firefighter/paramedic.

Dylan was first introduced to yoga in 2001 as a part of his martial arts training, but it wasn't until 2009 when he made the yoga practice a part of his daily life and started to understand the true journey of the yogi.

Since 2011, Dylan has been teaching yoga. Though a lover of movement, handstands, arm balances and creative sequencing, his focus is the integration of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence to create a space to deepen the inner connection.

In 2015, Dylan gave up his home in California to travel and teach workshops, teacher trainings, festivals, and retreats. He has taught in over 60 countries and more than 400 workshops or events. He is passionate about spreading his love for yoga and helping others in their journey by sharing his journey.

This first phase of the FlyStrong series will establish the foundational skills for handstands and inversions.

FlyStrong is for anyone who wants to learn how to handstand or who wants to advance their handstand and arm balance practice beyond whatever you thought you were capable of! This series lays the vital groundwork for the most successful and solid handstand and arm balance practice you can imagine.

I will take you through everything from wrist health, understanding body alignment and strength, knowing how to fall, and harnessing your balance and control. You will learn how to use your hands as an effective balance and breaking system by recruiting forearm strength. You will master the basics of strength recruitment, straight arm scapular strength and core stability to make your handstands and arm balances feel lighter in your body.

If you are new to handstands or are fearful of going upside down, I provide you with the tools to help overcome that fear by building your knowledge and confidence to get you to your first unsupported handstand. If you are comfortable with inversions, the knowledge you’ll gain from this program will take your skills to the level that you’ve been struggling to achieve.

I will share the best handstand and arm balance secrets to help you develop your inverted body awareness so that you will be able to hold a freestanding handstand with your head down and eyes closed, where you can begin to find meditation in your handstand at the same time rapidly increasing your proprioception and balance.

This is part two of the FlyStrong series where we’ll take the building blocks from part 1 into your flows.

In this month-long series I teach you how to bring handstands and arm balances directly into your Yoga practice and skillfully thread them into your Vinyasas. I’ve been on the handstand and arm balance journey for a long time and throughout my journey I’ve acquired tremendous knowledge on how to master the body while balancing on one or two hands. This series is to share that knowledge with you. You will learn how to be dynamic and fluid in your handstand, how to float, and how to fly.

FlyStrong II is a skill-building plan that will give you a technical understanding of body mechanics and will have direct application to your Yoga practice. I’ll provide you with crucial concepts and skill exercises to skyrocket your advancement and develop intelligent strength. You will build your body, improve your strength and increase flexibility while you simultaneously develop skill, balance and knowledge.

One element that sets this series apart is its programming. Besides learning the body mechanics and going through the practice with me in video, I also give you homework, which consists of a list of exercises to practice after class. Handstands and arm balances are built in the self-practice – it’s HOW and WHAT you do between lessons that will really make a huge difference.

After 30 days you will have the skill, stability and confidence to float into a handstand in the middle of the room, do Hollowbacks, strengthen and advance your arm balance practice, and integrate all of it into your everyday Yoga practice.

This is the third and final phase of theFlyStrong program. This is where we begin to play with advanced transitions and complex transitions!

FlyStrong 3 is the pinnacle of the FlyStrong Series. This plan shares all of the really tough transitions and movements that I love to do in my practice.

This month-long plan builds upon the concepts and techniques from FlyStrong 1 and 2. We will journey towards advanced poses like One Arm Handstand and Planche, and we’ll navigate through transitions such as lifts and lowers from arm balances into handstands. Many of these techniques can feel way out of our reach, but I break down all of the progressions into easy-to-follow steps that will make the most impossible movements possible.

The plan breaks down each movement step by step, and each video is built around a specific goal whether it’s a lowering from handstand to Eka Pada Koundinyasana, or to refine your balance or proprioception skills. All of the classes build upon the previous one. Each day also has homework to do between classes to help you incorporate the techniques and strength-builders needed to perform that particular pose or transition. In addition to this homework, I’ve also included specific drills that I use everyday to increase my balance, strength and proprioception.

This plan is for the strong intermediate to advanced yogi looking to bring more strength, control and mindfulness to their inversion practice in the smartest way possible.
